Would You Give Jesus a Gift This Christmas?‏

How are you preparing for Christmas this year? For many, Christmas always becomes a big rush to the malls and shopping centres to make sure they have gifts for friends and all their loved ones.

What does the Bible say about this? It is said that the practice of giving gifts at Christmas is traced back to the wise men who came to worship the Lord Jesus Christ (Matt 2:11) with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The wise men did two things: first, they worshipped Jesus, and then they presented Jesus with their gifts. This is the original Christmas Gift model.

It is interesting to note that the wise men gave gifts only to Jesus, not to one another. So perhaps a more accurate application of the wise men’s example would be for us to give our gifts to Jesus first, then to others if we so choose. What can you offer as gift to the Lord Jesus this Christmas? Is it time and energy to serve in a ministry? Is it reaching out to some people in need of love and care? Whatever it may be, let us do so with a heart of worship to the Lord.

What will you bring to Jesus this Christmas?

Wishing you a blessed Christmas,
xx
